Back to Top Printing: What
is CMYK printing? CMYK is the color mode used
by PrintsByMe.com to reproduce your job. The color calibration of Cyan (C), Magenta
(M), Yellow (Y), and Black (K) determines the final color in your artwork. As
a result, your submitted files must be in CMYK color mode to maximize color quality. If
your files are submitted using any other color standard such as RGB or Pantone,
they will be converted to CMYK during the print process. Conversion from one color
standard to another may cause colors to shift or cause other unexpected results. Before
submitting your artwork files, you may want to review our file preparation
guidelines. What is RGB printing??
RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is a color standard generally
used to display color on your computer monitor. PrintsByMe.com's Xerox iGen3 printer
uses CYMK color for its color print process. All RGB files will be converted to
CMYK during the print process. You should understand that conversion from one
color standard to another may cause colors to shift. For that reason, we strongly
suggest converting your RGB colors to CMYK before submitting artwork. The only
exception to this is photographic images. What
do I do if my logo or artwork uses Pantone colors? Pantone
colors (and any color standard besides CMYK) will be converted to CMYK. Although
some shifting may occur in the conversion process, the difference is usually not
significant. If more exact color matching is required, request a copy of our Pantone
Print Samples book. Why do certain colors look
different after they print? CMYK is the color
mode used by PrintsByMe.com to print your job. If your files are submitted in
any color standard other than CMYK, they will be converted to CMYK during the
print process. The conversion from one color standard to another may cause colors
to shift. For that reason, we strongly suggest converting your RGB colors to CMYK
before submitting artwork. What should I know
about color printing and proofs? Computer monitors
use RGB (Red, Green and Blue) to display color. When you print something to the
CMYK process, for best results, you need to convert any RBG colors, to CMYK colors
first. Why do colors display differently on
my monitor? You must take into consideration
that different monitor types display colors differently. Professional designers
and prepress companies generally use color-calibrated monitors to ensure the color
they see on their screens is as close as possible to the actual color of the file
once it is printed. What is a bleed and how
do I prepare my artwork to bleed? A bleed means
your artwork continues to the very edge of the paper and seemingly off on whatever
product you are printing. PrintsByMe.com requires a 0.125" bleed around
the perimeter of your artwork in print-ready files to ensure accurate cutting
(e.g., artwork for a 6" x 4" postcard should extend to 6.25" x
4.25"). We control the creation of the bleed area by the page size, not by
the DTP application. Documents that will bleed should be created with a page size
of 0.25" larger than the finished size providing a 0.125" bleed area
on all sides. Before submitting your artwork files, you may want to review our
file preparation guidelines. What
is the live area of the document? The live area
is the area within your design where the type will not run off the edge of the
page, because it is within 0.125" of the trim edge. Keeping your headlines,
captions or body copy within the "live area" will assure your type is
not printed off center or cut off at the edges. What
should I know about image resolution? Resolution
is also known as DPI (Dots per Inch) and can be described as the number of dots
that fit horizontally and vertically into a one-inch space. Generally, the more
dots per inch, the more detail captured and the sharper the resulting image. All
images should be edited, rotated, cropped and sized in an imaging software application
such as Adobe Photoshop. Do not re-size, crop, rotate or adjust images in DTP
applications. Place all images into your DTP application at 100%. In order to
obtain high-quality output, the recommended image resolution should be 300 dpi
at the actual finished size. If you must resample (scale) images, use bicubic
sampling and crop all images in Photoshop. Can
I mail in my artwork? No. PrintsByMe.com is
an online tool that not only allows you to turn print jobs quickly, but also at
a lower cost. Due to the time involved in mailing artwork or materials, it is
counterproductive to do so. Also, PrintsByMe.com cannot guarantee receipt, damages,
turnaround time or the alignment of the mailed materials with the online order,
when materials are sent via the mail. What
design programs does PrintsByMe.com support? It
is highly recommended designers use a DTP application for their page layout. Examples
of these applications are Adobe InDesign®, QuarkXPress® and Adobe Pagemaker®.
When it comes to acceptable file formats, PrintsByMe.com currently only supports
PDF files. Review our file preparation
guidelines for instructions on how to properly create your file for uploading. What
file formats does PrintsByMe.com accept for artwork? When
it comes to acceptable file formats, PrintsByMe.com currently only supports PDF
files for print production. Review our file preparation
guidelines for instructions on how to properly create your file for uploading. What
resolution does my artwork need to be for uploading? For
an image to print properly, the image must be at least 300 dots per inch (dpi)
at the final output size. If your file is not 300 dpi, you can not simply increase
the dpi from a low resolution to a higher one by increasing the DPI in your imaging
program. The Xerox iGen3 prints at 600 dpi;
we recommend your artwork be 600 dpi. What
if my files are low resolution? For an image
to print properly, the image must be at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) at the final
output size. PrintsByMe.com is not responsible for the quality of documents submitted
and ordered using low resolution images. What
do I do if I get an error when I upload? Attempt
to start the file upload process again. If it errors on the second attempt, then
utilize the Contact Us link and report the problem to our support staff who will
assist in resolving the issue. Can I email
my artwork to PrintsByMe.com? No. Emailing your
graphics files is problematic in several ways. Email
does not connect your artwork in any way with you or your account. Remember, the
PrintsByMe.com registration process is the only way PrintsByMe.com can individualize
you and keep your information secure and private. It is also the only way we can
make the connection between you, your artwork and your order. Additionally,
since PrintsByMe.com requires high resolution graphics in order to guarantee high
quality printing, there are too many limitations via email in regards to file
size both from a sending and receiving perspective. Finally,
in spite of virus protection software, the transmission of files from computer
to computer is still too susceptible to online malicious viruses. By declining
to accept files via email, we are able to protect you as well as ourselves from
online viruses that can damage or destroy computers and corrupt files. Can
I send in a disk of my files and artwork? No.

between turnaround time and shipping time? Turnaround
time is also known as Production Delivery Time and it varies by product, ranging
from one to ten business days. You should check the turnaround option for the
specific product that interests you. In addition, you should check our site to
ensure your turnaround time will not be impacted by an upcoming holiday. Turnaround
time for your print job begins once your order has been placed and your print-ready
files have been uploaded. If your job is received
by 6:00 p.m. CST, turnaround time begins that business day. For example, a job
with a two-day turnaround you ordered at 3:00 p.m. on a Wednesday will be shipped
out to you by end of business the following Friday. Please
note PrintsByMe.com's offices are closed Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. As a
result, these days are not considered when calculating turnaround time. Turnaround
time does not include shipping time. Shipping time depends on the type of shipping
method you selected at the time of your order. Identified issues with customer
artwork can impact the production turnaround time. What
can delay turnaround time? The primary cause
for delay in turnaround time is an issue with the print file. Turnaround time
will be put on hold if PrintsByMe.com identifies during the pre-flighting stage,
your file is not print-ready. At that point, we will contact you to resolve the
issue as quickly as possible. What are your
